Salary: £32,000 - £50,000 per annum plus KPI bonus (based on target) dependent on experience.

Report to: Managing Director & Creative Director

Bert & May is an interior lifestyle brand, providing a range of interior design products to both the trade and retail market. Its flagship store is based out of a beautiful warehouse in Bethnal Green and its head office hub is located in Tockwith, North Yorkshire. The brand has an exciting growth strategy, with ambitions to increase the number of retail outlets across the UK and create one of the leading retail e-commerce sites.

About the role:

We are looking for a dynamic, out-going & design loving Marketing Manager to join our head office team in the Yorkshire office. With ambitious plans for growth you will be responsible for managing and delivering the marketing strategy to ensure Bert & May achieves the forecasted sales within the agreed budget. Other duties include direct marketing to expand and utilise the contact list and develop coherent marketing strategies for new products. You will be hard-working and resourceful, with the ability to work within a close knit team and actively support the sales team to facilitate sales and new leads.

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Marketing Manager

To develop a dynamic and innovative marketing strategy which will ensure delivery of the agreed budget.

To own and ensure that the marketing strategy stays within the agreed annual marketing budget so contributing to the target profit and report to the board of Directors.

Effectively communicate with customers through all channels accurately on products to maximise sales across the range.

To ensure the profitable launch of all new products and product ranges and ensure all new and existing customers are fully aware of the new line.

To be responsible for the customer database and reach agreed targets for ‘active customers’.

To manage the internal press office and ensure relationships are developed with key targets.

Propose photography to enhance sales on all products to the Creative Director for approval.

To be fully aware of stock situation and to ensure the marketing material drives sales on ‘in stock’ products in order to meet customers’ needs.

Manage the marketing team and ensure they meet targeted KPI’s related to enquiry and lead generation.


Ensure all product information is accurate online and in stores and create white paper documentation for the sales team

To be responsible for making sure all departments within the company are fully trained in terms of product knowledge so a high level of customer service is achieved.

To work with the Commercial Director to ensure that stocks are in place to deliver the forecasted growth.

Marketing Analysis

To be fully aware of competitors marketing activity and undertake market research.

Establish a marketing report summarising the customer database, how it is growing and what part of the database are active buyers vs inactive, how long inactive.

Provide a monthly review of winners and losers in terms of marketing campaigns and report to the sales team.

To schedule an innovative email campaign including excellent photography and editorial so ensuring the budget online targets are met.

To propose discount marketing and communicate effectively to new and existing customers for approval by the Commercial Director.

To monitor customer feedback on both products, communications and stock issues and feedback to the Commercial Director with relevant proposed actions.

Manage all press office communications and respond swiftly to ensure excellent coverage in the press within London and beyond.


Monitor customers and whether they are trade/retail/online so building up a comprehensive understanding on areas of the growth.

Skills & Experience

Experience in a Marketing Manager role
Experience in working in a B2B and B2C sector
Experience of running campaigns for B2B and taking products to market
Experience working to a budget
Keen interest in design & interiors
Impeccable oral and written communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
Experience in communicating with business directors and PR agencies
A real team player who can keep up in a fast paced environment
Ability to use their own initiative and be a self starter
Experience using MAC OS
Working knowledge of SEO and Google analytics
Working knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator is very desirable
Experience in writing press releases
Host events in London to generate press coverage and reach out to new customers
Experience of of using Wordpress is desirable
