Every few months, our sourcing team head out to Southern Spain on the hunt for reclaimed tiles; it really is our passion and at the heart of everything we do.

With every find, we endeavour to seek out its prominence and with this beautiful tile “rug”, it was no exception. Sourced from the former home of the Mayor of Cadiz on Playa de Espana, a central square in Cadiz, an example such as this is rare to find making it particularly special.

Tile rugs were historically installed in the residences of more wealthy households as a sign of opulence, due to the bespoke formation in line with individual properties. They are however, an incredible example of how traditional tile makers used their skill and craftmanship to create pieces of art, encapsulating Spanish design and made to last a lifetime.

Tile rugs are essentially an entire floor design consisting of a central pattern with a matching border. While we are selling these tiles as one lot, they can be made to work for your own space by removing some of the middle tiles if needed.

As a unique find we were incredibly fortunate to retrieve two of the four corners, which is very rare when salvaging reclaimed tiles. This means you can recreate part of the original design. We think this would make a beautiful showpiece particularly for a generous hallway, kitchen or patio area. This rug consists of the following: interior tile 168 tiles, border 99 tiles, inner corner 2 tiles, outer corner 2 tiles with the total quantity equating to 10.84sqm.
