New Colour Launch: Jade

By Victoria Smith

Jul 27, 2022

Hitting the midpoint between pale blue and green-toned turquoise, Jade is a bright and beautiful addition to our core palette of handcrafted colours.

While it officially launches today, this cool and calming new shade has actually been several years in the making, and was originally developed as a bespoke colour for two of our clients.

When Richard and Sarah Balding embarked on a project to turn an old bank in St Austell, Cornwall, into their dream family home, they came to us with something special in mind. Having chosen our Santona tile in Yellow for one of their bathrooms, the design-conscious couple were keen to use the same pattern in a second bathroom space, but in a very specific colour. A colour we didn’t make at the time.

Not ones to shy away from a challenge, we worked closely with our artisans in Spain to produce the coastal-inspired shade Richard and Sarah were looking for, and not long after, Bert & May Jade was born.

As soon as we saw how impactful the colour was, we knew we had to bring it into our palette for good, and are delighted to have officially welcomed it to our permanent collection this month.

Our founder, Lee Thornley, says, “We are obsessive about colour, and are pleased to have launched the latest addition to our growing palette. Jade is a light and fresh tone which would brighten up any space when used in conjunction with bold, vibrant shades as well as pared-back neutrals”.

Jade is available as a plain tile in Square 10x10cm and 20x20cm, Herringbone, and Hexagon and Skirting tiles, and it also forms the base of a brand-new patterned tile - the Sanabria. Inspired by a traditional antique motif, this striking design is an updated version of the original, with a more contemporary aesthetic.

As well as the Sanabria, Jade will also be available in our classic Alalpardo and upcoming Luna designs.

How to Style

Jade can be calm and tranquil or striking and bold depending on how it is used. Go all-out and use it as the lead in a bathroom or kitchen or get creative with statement-making colour pairings…

Natural partners

Jade pairs incredibly well with neutrals. Use it with our Brighton Stone Square tiles to create a coastal-inspired chequerboard, or team with terracotta for a really striking contrast.

Bold and beautiful

For a more adventurous take on the look, combine Jade with vibrant Rhubarb for a bold and beautiful fusion of colours.
