Pearl Lowe: Faded Glamour by the Sea

When designer Pearl Lowe fulfilled a lifelong dream of buying a place by the sea, the interiors were never going to be that of your standard coastal bolthole. True to form, the Faded Glamour by the Sea author followed her signature ‘decadent but lived-in’ style and created an elegant and eclectic space packed with vintage finds, embellished fabrics, and fun finishing touches including a disco ball in the kitchen and star-shaped pendants hanging from exposed ceiling beams.

The entire home is layered, unstructured, and romantic, with a beautiful balance of old and new throughout - and that goes for the tiles, too, which Pearl selected from our Antique Collection, a series of special designs based on some of our favourite reclaimed finds.

We launched the Antique Collection when it became clear that demand for our reclaimed tiles was far outstripping supply. The nature of the reclamation process meant we weren’t always able to provide our clients with exactly what they wanted, when they wanted it, so the only solution was to recreate the intricate patterns, muted colours, and faded magic of antique finds ourselves.

The tiles we choose to recreate are the ones that have really stood out as something extra special - essentially, those we deem too good to let go. This could be down to a uniqueness in the motif, unusual formations, or just a certain something we know our customers will love.

For her new coastal home’s entrance hall/laundry room, Pearl chose the intricately patterned Quinta Marron, a classic design based on a tile we originally reclaimed from a hacienda in Southern Spain. With subtle highlights of green and yellow counterpointing the deep, earthiness of red and brown, it creates a colourful focal point in this cleverly designed, multi-functional space.

Continuing the focus on heritage patterns in the bathroom, Pearl used our pretty Blue Bolonia, another tile inspired by a reclaimed design. Accessorised with a beautiful, mirrored chest of drawers and a teal freestanding bath, it was the perfect fit for a thoughtful space created with tranquillity in mind.
