Bringing Miami Warmth to a London Townhouse
At Studio Werc Architects, thoughtful design meets practical living. Founder Rob Cullen has built a business around helping homeowners create beautiful, functional spaces that reflect their personalities. For his own London townhouse renovation, he used Raw Bejmat tiles to bring warmth, texture, and a sense of continuity to the space.
A Design Inspired by Travel
For Rob and his partner, the vision for their home was sparked by a special trip: “A big inspiration for us was our honeymoon in Miami a few years ago. We wanted to bring a little bit of that coastal warmth to rainy South-West London! A client of mine had used terracotta tiles in their kitchen, and the result was amazing. The Bejmat tiles from Bert & May were the perfect choice, giving us that rustic, handcrafted feel while moving away from the traditional orange hues of terracotta.”
The tiles became a central element of their renovation, running throughout the ground floor to creating a coherent flow. In the kitchen, they paired beautifully with the rich brown cabinetry, a choice Rob and his partner were committed to from the start. “They were the first thing we bought, and we hadn’t even started the project yet!”
Creating a Cohesive Space
The beauty of the Bejmat tiles is not just in their aesthetic appeal, but in their versatility. Rob used them in both the kitchen and the bathroom, ensuring a sense of harmony throughout the home. “In the bathroom, we combined the tiles with a micro-cement finish around the bath. It creates such a cosy and relaxing atmosphere, a perfect retreat.”
The Story Behind Studio Werc Architects & Homewerc
Rob founded Studio Werc Architects in 2017 alongside his business partner, with a mission to bridge the gap between great design and practical, budget-conscious renovations. Since then, the firm has worked on over 500 homes and grown into a dynamic team of 12.
“One of the things I enjoy most is helping homeowners understand the basics of the renovation process. It can feel overwhelming, but with the right guidance, it becomes an exciting journey.”
That passion for sharing knowledge led to the creation of Homewerc, a platform Rob and his partner Kate use to document their own renovation experiences and provide valuable insights for others embarking on similar projects.
